Nursery Closet Organization

Quarantine organization part 80. I have slowly but surely been working my way through tidying small areas of my house. There’s not many big projects I need to tackle but I have been organizing and purging our spaces. Spring cleaning always makes the house breathe better in my opinion and nursery closet organization is no exception.

Today I tackled Danny’s closet. Babies have so much stuff! Especially a baby whose family loves him so much and is always gifting him so many things! It’s crazy how quickly a nursery can get out of control. That’s why when I was pregnant I was all about nursery organization and storage.

Daniel has a lot of things. In fact, some might say he has everything. From clothes to towels and blankets to photo props. You name it, he’s got it. The thing is, too much stuff gives me anxiety, especially when that stuff is dormant and doesn’t provide any routine utility.

As long as the things have a home and are not overflowing out of every crevice I don’t mind keeping them around. I have cultivated a good amount of space in a small room for every baby item to have a home.

Closet Organization Must-Haves

  • Cube Organizer Shelf

The most important feature of Danny’s nursery closet is the 8-cube organizer. I am obsessed with cube organizers. There are at least 4 other shelves like this in my house of varying sizes. Some of them have drawers and others I use for display. For the closet, I like to have drawers for storage of miscellaneous nursery materials that don’t fit into the dresser drawers. It was also really important to me that there was a bookshelf because we got SO MANY books at his baby shower.

  • Canvas Bins

Storage is key to an organized nursery. These canvas storage bins are perfect for nursery item overflow. In the four I have in the closet I store bath towels and washcloths, swaddles and swaddle blankets, crib sheets and changing pad covers, and photo prop materials/pillows. The bins are nice and deep so you can get plenty of soft, squishy items inside. You will want somewhere to put all the blankets you will inevitably receive and subsequently not be able to use for a long time.

  • Baby hangers

When I first received the many clothes for Danny at our shower, I organized most of them into the dresser drawers. Onesies were organized by size and folded neatly in each drawer. Pants were in their own drawer, as were socks and hats. Folding baby clothes got old pretty quick after he was born and I ended up investing in some plastic baby hangers for onesies. This was in addition to the velvet ones I received. I find the plastic ones easier to slide onesies onto and the velvet ones easier to keep pajamas from sliding off.

  • Clothing Size Dividers

Originally, I thought these closet clothing dividers were silly. That was until I received an inordinate amount of baby clothes. It is so much easier to pick something out when the clothes are easily separated. I sort Danny’s clothes within their size range by style. They are organized by short sleeve, long sleeve, sweatshirts, and then pajamas. I also organize pajamas by cotton and fleece.

  • Under Crib Storage

Okay, I know under the crib storage is not part of closet organization but I think it still falls under the umbrella of nursery organization. I got these under the bed soft storage bins for all of the extra stuff we received at the shower. I put all of the larger sized clothing and soft packs of diapers and wipes in them. They slide easily under the crib and keeps the closet looking neater and organized.

Every now and again I go through all the bins and storage to fold and tidy. I also remove anything extra that hasn’t been used in a while and move it to our upstairs storage. As Danny grows out of sizes I use space bags to help keep them clean and neat. Babies have a lot of things but if you have the right system in place you can easily manage and adapt as they grow.
