Changing Table Organization & Essentials

One of the things I do regularly is tidy and organize our spaces. Cleaning and organizing is one of the ways I cope with anxiety. I like knowing that if I need something it is readily available and in a predictable, consistent location. Today, it was the tidying up Danny’s changing table organization & essentials.

Just to let you know, I earn a modest commission off of purchases made through Amazon affiliate links on this page. Don’t worry, it is of no extra cost to you. I love the products I recommend and hope you do too! For more information, please read my full disclosure policy.

The changing table is a critical component of Danny’s nursery. Babies go through a lot of diapers and require special care for their sensitive areas. Thanks to one-level living we utilize our changing station for diaper swaps exclusively.

We have a 6-drawer dresser with a changing table topper on top. I love this setup because it keeps everything organized. There is plenty of room on top for ease of access to critical supplies and storage to hide away extras. The bonus here is that the dresser came totally assembled.

I have attached an image of how I keep his changing table organized. Below is a list of the items I keep on top for easy access and inside the top two drawers.

On top:

  • Changing pad w/cover

Our go-to for a changing pad was the Summer Infant Changing Pad. My favorite covers are the Carter’s Super Soft Covers. They have the minky texture and come in really pretty rich colors. We have the gray and the navy and I love them both.

  • Changing pad liner

I was skeptical about the need for a liner for the changing pad. I thought that was the purpose of the changing pad cover. Turns out, you would have to change the cover all the time if you did not use a liner on top. Just today, Danny spit up prunes all over as I laid him down on the changing table. I had a terry-cloth set originally but then I found these Bamboo Quilted Changing Pad Liners. They are so much nicer and hold up really well to changes and washes.

  • Wipes container

When I first created my registry, I thought I needed (or wanted, really) a wipe warmer. I received it at my shower and was underwhelmed. It was bulky, you had to plug it in and it did not have a pop open feature. I ended up sending it back and getting the OXO Pop-Up Wipes Dispenser. I have the OXO brand containers in my pantry so I trusted this would be the same quality. This wipe container is so great I even bought the travel size container for my diaper bag.

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Aquaphor/diaper cream of choice
  • Diapers

Top Drawer #1: The Utility Drawer

This is everything I like to keep on hand when Danny is on top of the changing table. If I need to take his temperature or suck some boogies that is the perfect place to do it. Here is the list of what I use and some of my ultimate must-have baby items (of all time).

Top Drawer #2: The Spares

Daniel spits up like it is his job so I always have burp cloths at the ready. He is my mini volcano of spit. My FAVORITE burp cloths are Burt’s Bees. They are the perfect size, super absorbent, and super cute. I have them in every print and color I cannot recommend them enough! They are a little pricey for something that is going to get gross but they wash so well and have held up great!

For Organizing:

  • Drawer dividers

If you want to maximize the space in your baby’s dresser drawers, you should get these drawer dividers. I like these better than organizers with many pockets because they take up less space and it is easier to keep tidy.

  • Basket/caddy

I organize everything on the top of the changing table into a basket. It looks nice and everything is right within my reach. You will want things within your reach because they go from being compliant newborns to feet-eating rolling infants in the blink of an eye
