Baby Bath Organization

I have recently been going through some of Daniel’s things and organizing our spaces. He is getting bigger and bigger every day! As he is changing so much even by the hour, I find myself needing to adapt our materials and our spaces to better suit our needs. Today, I decided to start with the bathroom and all of our tubby time supplies and baby bath organization.

Amidst all the nesting I did when preparing for Danny’s arrival, I found myself creating and organizing a variety of baskets. I had so many baskets. I had a breastfeeding basket, a bedroom basket, a nursery basket, and a bath basket (and probably more that I can’t remember). Baby bath organization is an important step in bathing your baby. The last thing you want is a slippery, wet, potentially unhappy baby without everything you need in your reach. 

From the moment Danny was born I had a bath caddy. It was more like a basket than a caddy. You can easily find the plastic caddies in Target or Amazon, especially during back to school/college.

Having a bath caddy or basket made getting ready for bath time so much easier. I knew that all I needed was the basket, the towels, the tub, and of course, the baby and I was all set. If you want to make your life even easier, find a caddy you can roll towels into and then it really is a one stop shop. 

I keep all of the baby’s bath items in our guest bathroom which is next to our nursery. Having the basket allows me to consolidate all of his things so that they’re not impeding functionality of our guest bathroom.

Bath Caddy Supply Suggestions

• Baby shampoo

My favorite baby shampoo to date is the Johnson & Johnson night time lavender shampoo. I received a whole set of this at my shower and I love how light the fragrance is while still smelling nice.

• Baby lotion

Okay so even though I have the Johnson & Johnson set of baby bath supplies I am obsessed with Burt’s Bees. I love all things Burt’s. I received a sample of lotion and loved the way it smelled. Since I do like the lavender from the original set I figured the Burt’s Bees Lavender/Vanilla calming lotion was just as nice. This in fact was true and it is now my favorite baby lotion to use.

• Hairbrush

Daniel was born with quite a bit of hair. Everyone asked me if I had bad heartburn because he had so much hair. I’m happy to say that I did not and this is likely just an old wives’ tale. I keep the hair brush from our Safety First Health & Grooming kit in our bath basket for all that fluffy baby hair.

• Derma frida

I am a big fan of the Frida baby products. When we were discharged from the hospital we swiped the little orange sponge with the soft plastic bristles that the nurses used for his first bath. I used that little sponge for so long because I love the way it lathered and scrubbed while still being gentle. During one of our late night feedings I stumbled across the Derma Frida which is essentially the same thing as the hospital sponge. It is a great little washer and scrubber, especially if your baby suffers from excessive flaking or cradle cap.

• Moby pour cup

One of the BEST sets of anything that I registered for was this Moby Bath Set. It has all the things you need to make bath time easier for YOU. I keep the bath cup in the basket because I use it for rinsing and for storing a couple of toys for bath play.

• Aquaphor

This stuff is literally everywhere in our house. I have the big one on our changing table and I bought smaller ones to have everywhere else. We keep one in the diaper bag, one at my mom’s house, and one in the bath basket.

• Diapers

It is always good to keep a few diapers handy so you can diaper and dress your babe before they get a chill right out of the tub.

• Pack of wipes

I always keep a pack of wipes handy in the bath basket. The reason for this is sometimes he needs a quick wipe before getting into the tub. That and now that he eats food he is habitually a huge mess.

Why a bath basket is a great idea

Having all these items in one place makes it easy to carry, especially when you’re still bathing your baby in the kitchen. An easy to carry caddy is perfect for transporting from bathroom to kitchen.

And let me tell you, bathe your baby in the kitchen as long as you can. I sat his tub on top of the sink and bathed him like that for as long as I could before he could sit up. It saved my back for sure. 

Even after moving bath time to the bathroom I still keep all his things in the caddy. I am able to conveniently keep some things on the side of the tub now too. I had many baskets and caddies around my house, some of which were actually useless dust collectors. The bath caddy, however, is a definite must for moms who have their hands full.
